This is the first prototype, design number 2 made for a female model. This design was revolved around the side seams with the ribbon crossing with lace as well as the full volume of the skirt with the slit. The bodice with the lace ribbon was draped first and the then the bottom skirt was draped on bias. I used the leftover lace fabric to fit around the skirt and added pleats to create volume. The prototype fit well on the model.

This is the basic concept review to get the ideas out of what I am interested in designing. Changes could come about as I continue my research throughout the design process. This concept is inspired form hip hop and reggaetón music as well as the artists themselves such as Kendrick Lamar and artist Bad Bunny. Latina female artists such as Becky G and Cardi B are major female inspiration based on the types of clothing they consistently wear.

I really liked the outcome of the dress. I think it’s better off without sleeves because when I wear it out to a dance, I won’t get as hot and sweaty with the extra fabric. I still want to add the bottom panel of wool. I’m just glad the dress fits my body so I can wear this outfit.  I’m not a women who wears much dresses mainly because of my body type but having a dress that fits always makes me feel good when I look good. If I could change anything, I would make the crop top part a little bit shorter and make the strips of wool a little longer. I did have to shorten and adjust the strips because it was too long and bulky if I left them in their original size.

Blog Post #3 Spark Tour

I had never been to the Spark building. It’s not hard to find and it is in a great location. The design room looked so simple when I first walked in. After having the little tour of the room on how it was divided into three section, it was more understood. The first area was for brainstorming including the white boards that flip out from the wall and also the brainstorming tables, one can used as a white board as well to get ideas out. The second section was the computer areas where you can digitally 3D scan an object to import to the computers as well as bringing your designs from paper to digital. The third section was the large 3D printer as well as 2-3 smaller 3D printers as well as I think two laser cut machines. One was for the fabrics, maybe even aluminum and the other was used for like iron and it was used to carve out this sort of painting structured with the cuts and movements from the laser, i think made for more sturdy materials like metal. Seeing the example of the laser cut design was really beautiful and it gave me ideas to create designs for the senior collection. I’m really excited to use what I learned last year in CAD class and create my own design.

My target is focusing on the ages of 15-33 years old and the sex of my target market is for women, men and could be worn as unisex clothing. The education is high-school or college level. They could be students or just workers who make from $10,000- $50,000. They are really into fashion especially coming from small towns or cities where there isn’t much too do. The young people of today’s generation like to dress up in nice fashion of their choice to post on their social networks from Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. The right brand for the right target market will want to showcase they’re favorite brand. They prefer quality over quantity and prefer simple fashion that is affordable. The Geographic location is Washington, Oregon, and California. My focus will be on stylish street wear. I want to really amp up our everyday clothing so we can remain stylish anywhere we go and for those who like simple fashion, I can create original and simple designs that have not been seen before. Setting the right vibe for my target market will make it easier to come out with new trends and looks that will be easy to adapt too. I like taking men’s clothing and making it more feminine or taking women’s clothing and making it more masculine. I like my deigns to be fresh and something new that has not been seen before. The survey really question if I enjoy the student tasks such as studying, attending class and getting excited about projects which is what a college University is all about.  This was a great reminder and motivation about sticking through with college and making sure I’m making the right decisions and figuring out how I am and what I think about my education and future success with my schooling.

My definition of social responsibility is being able to manage how much product is wasted and limiting a low amount of waste especially for mass production where costs are high and product is low. Nothing should be thrown out if it could be recycled and reused to create a variety of different products. My sustainable design method will be combining different left over fabrics I’ve saved up over the years. I want to come up with a design that today’s generation would proudly wear for everyday street wear and come up with a cool design that kids and teenagers would be proud to wear with a strong fashion sense. The True Cost documentary really made me see how much damage is done behind the scenes of major fashion production companies especially in fashion garment districts that are around the world and also could be close by in major cities around the United States. This really impacts us a designers when we are picking out fabrics and workers from countries all over the world who are trying to earn money while my company is trying to save up money. Being able to provide the workers with a good working pay to provide for their family so they won’t accept to work in dangerous working conditions and risk their lives for a low wage.
