My definition of social responsibility is being able to manage how much product is wasted and limiting a low amount of waste especially for mass production where costs are high and product is low. Nothing should be thrown out if it could be recycled and reused to create a variety of different products. My sustainable design method will be combining different left over fabrics I’ve saved up over the years. I want to come up with a design that today’s generation would proudly wear for everyday street wear and come up with a cool design that kids and teenagers would be proud to wear with a strong fashion sense. The True Cost documentary really made me see how much damage is done behind the scenes of major fashion production companies especially in fashion garment districts that are around the world and also could be close by in major cities around the United States. This really impacts us a designers when we are picking out fabrics and workers from countries all over the world who are trying to earn money while my company is trying to save up money. Being able to provide the workers with a good working pay to provide for their family so they won’t accept to work in dangerous working conditions and risk their lives for a low wage.
