Project 4 Book Deconstructed

My book is Arms from the Sea. I choose to work with the Sea theme. I choose to do a 3-dimension design pop up book. After researching how to create the pop up pages, I began ripping out pages and drawing the figures and shapes on them. Next I worked on cutting out the figures and adding tempura paint to them. Next I glued and taped them together and inserted it into the book. The first pop up is a man at sea with a shark jumping in the background. Next is a pop up of the sea waves with different shades of blue. Then I created sharks jumping in the sea. Next I worked a rescue boat. Last I jumped into a more creative version close up of a shark.

Project 3 Clay

I started my clay project with a textured floor of a diamond shape. Then I jumped into making the mannequin which was at the limit of 8 inches. I used a scoop to make the inside of the dress hollow and shaped the rest of the dress by hand. My theme and vision of the overall project is a sewing design studio. Next I worked on making the thread spool and adding textured thread. Next I work on making the giant oversized needle and carved my brand name into it. I then worked on the sewing machine and the clothes rack. I used Matte glazes for the color. Some were random and others had real life colors. After it was fired, I used opoxy to stick some pieces together that fell off.

Project 2

For the wire project I wanted to create something that I could possibly use. At first I wanted to work with the material and I thought about a crown. To get a little deeper I was inspired by Egyptian and Pharaoh headdress that are highly pleasing to the eye and often covered in gold. I used the wire that was in a bin outside and found some gold chicken wire. I started with a circle base wire and built up from there. Getting the bottom base circle sturdy enough to hold the rest of the piece was the hardest part. I couldn’t get everything exactly like my drawing because wire was more difficult to work with than I thought.

Project 1

When I first started the recycled/redone project I gathered materials I had at home starting with water bottles and construction paper, even cardboard and foam I found laying around. The materials didn’t turned out exactly how I wanted so after playing around with the materials I found a technique that works. I had drawn the first ballerina sketch with water bottles and after that I started thinking of the theme of ballerina and than cane up with the piano from foam. That spiraled into the throne or chair also from foam. Then I used cardboard and construction paper to create the sunflower and rose. I added acrylic paint to the materials to give it some color.

My concept review final collection theme has stayed the same, inspired by Hip-Hop & Reggaeton music & artists. Changes updated were the change in background to more a more subtle color with a font color change to gold from yellow and a pop of blue. The majority of the concept stayed the same. However the focus is not so much on unisex clothing but on making masculine clothing more feminine and making feminine clothing more masculine. I went from having 3 designs to a total of 8 designs, with four women designs and four male designs. I also created 6 textile prints as well as a laser cut design. In my original concept, I was not going to use the  fabrics from Spain but I’ve decided to incorporate them in male and female designs as well as the textile prints made. There is still minor adjustments to be made to the designs as well like the textile prints will have changes in color and implementing the Spain fabrics in the male designs. I spent a majority of the time designing the textile prints so with that part almost finalized, I will have more time to focus on the designs, which I do not think are too complicated to sew, it’s more of a focus on the aesthetics that will bring the collection together.

The prototype is design number six for women which is the laser cut design. I started by draping the shirt in cut pieces of 24 x 16 inch rectangles to create a wide enough shirt for the design to be cut. I wanted it as wide as possible so I used four cut rectangles. The sleeves were to be added later as long the design could fit in the provided measurements. I continued and updated my research on the designs I created. Through out the weeks I came up 8 final designs for the collection that would be four female designs and four male designs.

What is really going to bring my collection together is through the use of textile prints I design. It’s always hard for me to find fabric prints I like so with the use of technology through WSU I can use the resources provided to create my own textile prints . I had a basic idea of 7-8 textile prints I want to create. I started out by hand drawing the prints to get my ideas out on paper. My basic ideas to draw out included a gun print, a lion print, and a bandana print. The rest would be digital images of black and white photos, a graffiti print, a plaid print, and a fire print. With laser cut resource technology on campus, I also came up with an angel wings design.
